Amateur Astronomers in the Modern Age of Discovery
From supernova to variable stars to cutting edge astronomical research,
every year amateur astronomers are contributing to science and
astronomy. Come learn some of the areas where you can help make
important observations. Bob Stephens has been participating in amateur
research since he became involved in astronomy nearly 40 years ago. In
the past dozen years, he has fallen in with a bad crowd and now spends
every clear night observing asteroids, contributing to professional
programs, writing papers, and traveling to faraway places to observe on
mountain tops or share adult beverages with professional astronomers.
Come learn how to avoid this terrible fate.
