A Practical Guide to Solar Ha observing and Equipment
his talk will be about getting involved in observing the current solar activity cycle with Hydrogen Alpha equipment. The first part of the talk will be about the sun's chromosphere and the aspects of it we observe using Hydrogen Alpha filters. The next part of the talk will be a discussion of how Hydrogen alpha telescopes work and what makes them different from other telescopes. The final part of the talk will be a review of two of the most common types of telescopes and what they offer.
Dr. Doug Millar has been an OCA member for about 16 years and has been on the board. He was one of the first OCA'ers to use CCD astronomy and discovered supernova 1994i. He and his wife Helen Mahoney have several solar telescopes including a 60KHz solar radio telescope. Dr. Millar is currently a college professor of Education.
