Join us for an evening of short presentations of various interesting topics by OCA members.
Chris Butler: Chris will be presenting "My Universe, Revised", a look at Chris's on-going efforts to visualize planetary systems around distant stars. Many OCA members will recall Chris's "Our Little Corner of the Galaxy" lectures - this presentation will take you behind the scenes to look at how artistic imagination is inspired by the latest scientific findings.
Tim Hogle: Talk: "Tim And Tim's Excellent Adventure"
In August of this year, Tim Hogle and Tim Parker went on a road trip to the Stellafane conference, the Mecca of amateur telescope makers in Springfield Vermont, followed closely thereafter by the Oregon Star Party in Prineville, Oregon. A whirlwind trip of 7000 miles in 2 weeks included three full days at each event and a lot of driving in between. This talk will describe the trip, the events themselves, and the exciting impressions of the historical and innovative telescopes they saw.
Tom Munnecke: PapaTom Munnecke is founder and executive director of the Cosmos Research Center, whose Galactic Headquarters is located in his backyard in Encinitas, Ca. The center helps younger people develop an interest in science through science parties, lectures, a web site, and YouTube videos (see http://PapaTom.net) The center features two telescopes, a microscope, a weather station, computer, a green laser, and 330 foot scale model of the solar system. Scientists Lincoln (10) and Max (12) (sons of OCA member Kevin Nelson) will also be attending to describe some of their experiences with astronomy.
