The OCA Science SIG group primarily
conducts it's interactions via the online area on Yahoo
Groups. This is an area for OCA members to discuss science
oriented observing and analysis of such observations. Although
the focus will be on science conducted by OCA members at Anza
and other member sites, non-OCA members are welcome to participate.
This place exists as a watering hole
around which OCA members congregate to discuss aspects of
conducting science with their telescopes.
In some ways (particularly in regards
to the art of CCD imaging) the interests of this group may
coincide with another OCA online group, the OCA AstroImagers
(and I assume there will be a signficant crossover in membership
as time goes along).
But in other ways this SIG will diverge
significantly from our sister group. The goal of the OCA Science
SIG will be to produce and publish valid astrophysical data.
This may include images, but most of the time it will involve
getting good scientific (i.e. numeric) data out of our telescope
and cameras.
The formation of this SIG grew out
of discussions held at a CCD Workshop conducted in June 2002
by OCA member John Hoot. While I will be serving as the moderator
of the online portion of the OCA Science SIG, others, such
as John, will provide the lion's share of insight.
It's a grand universe out there.
And there is still a lot we don't know about it. It is our
quest to explore that universe and discover what we may. We
welcome you to our band of observers and to our quest.
