The Astrophysics SIG meets at a building
in the Discovery Museum on Harvard Ave. in Santa Ana. Enter
the Discovery Museum driveway. The classroom is a one story
art deco colored building on the left at the end of the driveway.
Parking is available to the right of the classroom. Harvard
is about 2 miles north of the I405 freeway. If coming from
I405, Harvard is the next traffic light after Warner.
Topics for discussion cover a wide
range of subjects from the latest discoveries to the history
of astronomy. A sample would include the atom and its components,
the spectrum, LIGO and gravity waves, isotopes, quantum mechanics,
supernova, Hipparchus, and the Hubble Telescope. We purposely
avoid introducing mathematics into the discussions except
on rare occasions. Our purpose is to make astrophysics
accessible to the layman.
