This is the OCA's largest SIG. This
is a group for everyone interested in understanding, learning,
improving, helping others in the art and science of all forms
of Astro Imaging (Film and Video/CCD photography)
Meetings --
This group holds monthly meetings in Irvine (see meeting info).
You are welcome to come and sit in on our meetings
which include presentation of the latest images
taken by members as well as discussions of equipment
and imaging techniques. Beginners and experts are
equally welcome!
Online Discussion List --
The group also has its own Yahoo group mailing
list which you can request to join by going to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AstroImagers
or by sending an email to
astroimagers-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
Field Trips --
Normally you find
many members of this group at the OCA's
Anza site, but group members also informally
organize field trips to dark sites for imaging
or to special facilities such as professional
observatories. Read about our recent trip
to visit
Palomar Observatory.
Conferences -- Members of this SIG
were responsible for planning and running
the OCA's
AstroImage 2002 conference at UC
Irvine in August of 2002. Due to difficulties
in arranging for speakers AstroImage will not
be held in 2003. AstroImage
conferences will resume in 2004.

group. The project is to manage the simultaneous imaging of
Venus - to gather data which will provide research findings
related to the "ashen light of Venus".
:
Presentations from members (such as Dick Greenwald, Dave Kodama)
showing us all their various scanners used to scan in astrophotos.
The first meeting was held on Tuesday
October 25th 2000.
Around 15 people attended the first
meeting where we discussed the formation of the group, when
and where we should meet in future, should we have two sections
(one for CCD and one for Film) - we decided on having on e
group for now.
Our second meeting was on Tuesday
November 21st 2000.
We had a detailed presentation from
Dave Kodama who gave an excellent introduction to all aspects
of CCD and Astrophotography. After the break we had a general
discussion and sharing of photos.
The third meeting was on Tuesday December
19th 2000.
Approximately 20 members attended
to hear Gregory Pyros give an excellent presentation on his
home made CCD Flat-Field device. After the break we had many
ideas exchanged among the group and we decided on the next
topic for the January meeting.
