With over 800 members in the club
it will be no surprise to find our members enjoy a variety
of different specific astronomical interests. To cater for
this we have various special interest groups (SIGs). Generally
the SIGs meet at least once per month in various venues.
The AstroImagers are a group of members
involved with AstroImaging using a wide variety of techniques
and equipment. The group meets on the third Tuesday of every
month. The members of this group were responsible for the
very successful AstroImage 2002 conference at UCI in August.

The beginners class is the only SIG
which is actually to the public. Meetings are generally held
on the first Friday of every month. OCA Member David Pearson
runs these classes.
This email group is for people interested
in working to preserve and improve the quality of the night sky,
particularly in Orange County, California, Eastern Riverside County,
and surrounding areas. One purpose of this email list is for members
of the Dark Sky group in Orange County Astronomers to coordinate and
exchange information, but you don't need to belong to the club to
join this group.

The Electronics Oriented Astronomers
SIG is currently working on a project to build and develop
a remotely operated telescope at our Anza site called the
MOCAT (Multi-Function-OCA-Telescope). This group usually meets
on the third Wednesday of each month. Due to the current project
you may also find members of this group working out at Anza
when time and project demands require it.
The GoTo-ETX "informal interest" group
has been formed for those members who own one of the Meade
ETX telescopes. This group meets about once every two months.
Please check the calendar for details on upcoming meetings.
This on-line only group is a place where
members (and even non-members) can communicate on any topic
of interest to them.

The OCA's cable TV show called
"Look Up Tonight" is now airing on four separate cable
companies within Orange County reaching over 400,000
households in the area.
Although not formalized into a special
interest group the Outreach volunteers probably meet more
often than any other group. Our Outreach coordinator Jim Benet
organizes a large group of member volunteers who donate their
time and expertise at the many outreach events that occur
throughout the month. The club members take their telescopes
out to various schools, libraries and other public venues
to share the wonderful experience of Astronomy with thousands
of members of the public each year. Jim is always looking
for additional volunteers to help spread the load. We are
also always interested in considering new outreach requests
from schools, scouts and other organizations.
This recently formed group is a new focal
point for scientific based work within the club. It's members
are interested in practical research based activities using
their own and the clubs telescope resources. Presently the
groups activities are informal and based upon online interactions
at Yahoo Groups.
